I am so glad for the unique and special opportunity of having Denise L. Miller as my Public Speaking Professor and role model at Queens College last Spring. I was employed full time, as many of us were, but decided to take the class to enhance my skills as a public speaker. As tired as I would be sometimes after work, I always made it to her class. She made it a point to spend time with each student individually and, despite both her and our busy lives outside the course, made it fun and interesting. It was obvious she cared about her students from the way she engaged us.
At the beginning of the class, many of the students were worried about their ability to complete the final project, a presentation in front of the entire class on a subject of our choice. By working with each student, often across language barriers, she succeeded in helping us all achieve the goal of the class and at the end of the semester, every person was able to stand up and confidently present their information to the class.
The accomplishments of her students are a credit to Ms. Miller as a superior educator who cares deeply and takes pride in seeing her students succeed.
